iAmerica. Yea, someday we can get around to defining this one, but first some background.
iAmerica.net the domain name was originally owned by Long Distance Savers (LDS) based in Monroe, Louisiana through the mid to late 1990’s.
iAmerica was an Internet Service Provider doing stuff like; dial-up, high speed, business services, web hosting, etc. ( you get the idea )It passed through several hands during the dot-boom to the dot-bomb.
A group of former employees purchased iamerica.net during an auction the Summer of 2006. ( Didn’t want to see it become a link farm or porn site )
This is probably one of those really early occurances of the barely tolerable everywhere “i” as in iMac, iPod, iPhone, iWhatIts.
It’d be interesting to find out the “i” history. As far as I know iAmerica was named sometime in late 1994 to early 1995 since the earliest whois date is May 23, 1995. Sadly the Archive.org Wayback Machine doesn’t have a copy of the site before 1996, it’s still scary.
